A waterspout was spotted near Kampung Kopimipinan in Papar recently, as parts of Sabah continues to rain.
According to Prof Dr. Felix Tongkul, Geologist, such waterspouts were quite normal and seldom caused any danger to anyone.
However, she added that if it continues to rain, it is floods and landslides that people should be worried about.
Many areas are experiencing a rise in river water levels and places including Kota Kinabalu, Bundusan, and Kota Belud are experiencing flash floods.
An alert reminding the public to be cautious of the rising water levels has been issued by the State Fire and Rescue Department officials.
The public are warned against crossing rivers, to avoid touching electrical appliances or poles, or drive pass flooded areas.
A villager in Kg Sugud expressed his concerns, sharing that his home is still in a mess and if another flood occurs, he will not be able to salvage what was left.
Many local residents have also gone on social media to express their fear over the unpredictable weather and to remind each other of staying alert at all times.
