After years of portraying military heroes on the big screen, Tom Cruise has been recognized as a real-life hero.

The Top Gun star was awarded the Department of the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service (DPS) Award during a ceremony in London. This prestigious honor, the highest the Navy can give to someone outside the department, recognizes Cruise's significant contributions to the U.S. Navy through his film career.
Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro, presented the award, highlighting how Cruise’s roles have inspired generations to join the Navy and Marine Corps. Cruise’s portrayal of Navy personnel has helped raise awareness and appreciation for their sacrifices and dedication.

Cruise, known for his iconic role as a Naval fighter pilot in Top Gun (1986) and its 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick, expressed gratitude for being able to inspire current and past sailors. He credited his success to the work of his entire cast and crew.
Interestingly, Cruise’s involvement in the original Top Gun film sparked a surge in Navy pilot recruitment. In 2020, Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were named Honorary Naval Aviators, further cementing their legacy with the Navy.
