Actress Susan Lankester was overcome with emotion as she achieved a milestone when her name was announced as the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2024 held in Singapore last night.
The 62-year-old star's victory was a result of her exceptional portrayal of Aileen Choo in the film Rain Town, directed by Tunku Mona Riza.
Even more meaningful, Susan's outstanding achievement was distinguished by a winning margin of just 0.08 points over the final contender, Robyn Malcolm.
Overcome with emotion as her name was announced as the winner, Susan expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fellow cast members and the crew who supported her in bringing the character of Aileen to life.
Adding a magical touch to the moment, Susan dedicated the award to all mothers, as well as her late mother who inspired the character of Aileen.
"I'd like to dedicate this award to all the mothers out there who fight their silent battles and who wake up every day to take care of us.
"This award goes to my mom too. She is Aileen. I created Aileen because of her," she said.
Susan also dedicated the award to all women who are battling cancer.
Notably, this marks Susan's second success at this prestigious awards event, following her win for Best Asian Comedy Actress at the AACA in 2021.
The film Rain Town, which explores themes of family struggles, has been praised for its compelling storytelling and strong performances from the cast.
The film features a stellar lineup of actors, including Chew Kin Wah, Pauline Tan, Wilson Lee, and Fabian Loo.
Produced by Current Pictures Sdn Bhd, Rain Town delves into the emotional struggles and strained relationships within a family.
The story revolves around Choo, a father who frequently meddles in the personal lives of his three grown children, leading to conflict when his wife, Aileen, is involved in an accident.
