Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun stated that abuse and mistreatment involving autisitc child must be strictly and appropriately punished.
Video of an alleged abuse among one of its occupants went viral and the autism intervention and childcare centre in Bandar Baru Ampang is under probe.
A thorough investigation should be carried out to prevent recurrence.
“I have instructed the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to take suitable action under the Care Centres Act 1993 (Act 506),” said Rina.
In response to the video clip of an autistic boy being abused by a woman, she urged intervention actions from the aspect of psychosocial and counselling. Parents and the child will be provided with a registered counsellor to protect their physical and emotional wellbeing.
“The Ministry will not compromise with any quarters involved in the abuse or mistreatment of children and would stay committed in enhancing public awareness to protect them,” Rina added.
To ensure your children’s safety, parents are advised to send their children to childcare centres or nurseries registered with the JKM.
Cases involving child abuse sould be reported to the policeh, Kasih hotline at 15999 or WhatsApp to 019-26 15999 or to 108 JKM offices nationwide.
