Its monsoon season and floods in Malaysia are one of the most common natural disasters affecting the country.

 

If you live in a flood prone area, here are a few things you need to know. 

 

Evacuation Plan

  • It’s wise to develop an evacuation plan beforehand. Be sure everyone in your family is aware of where to go if they have to leave. Everyone should know what to do in case all family members are separated. Creating a plan helps reduce fear and anxiety. 


Disaster Supply Kit

  • It is vital to have at least one disaster supply kit at home. What do you need to have?
  1. First aid supplies
  2. Flashlight with extra batteries
  3. Non-perishable food
  4. Drinking water
  5. Candles, matches
  6. Essential medicines
  7. Warm clothes, Blanket(s) or sleeping bag(s)
  8. Cash
  9. Rain gear

  • Prepare a list of things you want to move up, out or away. Important documents, jewellery, electronics and food should be kept at a safe place (waterproof too if you can).
