Pierce Brosnan recently opened up about his time on the set of Mrs. Doubtfire, and according to him, it was far from an ordinary filming experience. While the 1993 film is a nostalgic favorite for many, Brosnan says that what went on behind the scenes—thanks to Robin Williams—was even more memorable.

In a conversation with Vanity Fair, Brosnan reflected on working alongside Williams, though he admits it didn’t feel like he was working with Robin at all. “I really never worked with Robin Williams,” Brosnan said. “I only worked with Mrs. Doubtfire.” From the moment they met, Williams was in character—sort of. Their introduction happened in the makeup trailer, where Williams appeared in full Mrs. Doubtfire prosthetics, Hawaiian shirt, and all.
True to form, Williams immediately began improvising, flipping between Doubtfire’s prim accent and his own voice in seconds. “Oh, Pierce, you’re so handsome. Come here, give us a kiss,” Williams teased in character, before breaking into a deep, playful tone: “Hey baby, what’s happening?” Brosnan remembered how effortlessly Williams moved between personalities, keeping everyone around him constantly guessing—and laughing.

One moment that stood out for Brosnan involved a scene where Mrs. Doubtfire makes suggestive comments to his character, Stu. Since there were no children on set that day, Williams pushed the boundaries of the script, going “really blue” with his jokes. Brosnan says the outtakes are full of him laughing uncontrollably, completely at the mercy of Williams' sharp, unfiltered wit.
Despite the chaos, Brosnan speaks of his co-star with deep affection. “He was such a kind-hearted man,” he said. “He really knew how to bring people joy.” Although their time working together was brief, the impact of Robin Williams—both as a performer and a person—left a lasting impression on Brosnan, and likely everyone lucky enough to share a set with him.
