During an appearance on The Late Show Thursday night, the Babygirl star and AMC icon revealed a surprising piece of memorabilia in her collection: the original handwritten lyrics to “Your Song,” penned by Bernie Taupin. The 1970 classic not only became a Billboard hit but has also been covered by countless artists over the decades. When host Stephen Colbert pressed her on where she keeps the treasured lyrics, Kidman playfully put a finger to her lips and whispered, “Shhh!”
Kidman and McGregor recently had a mini Moulin Rouge! reunion on the Golden Globes red carpet, sparking nostalgia among fans of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 jukebox musical. The film, which reimagined hits from artists like Elton John, Madonna, Nirvana, and The Police, later inspired a Broadway adaptation that debuted in 2019. “Your Song” marked the first duet between Kidman and McGregor’s characters in the film, leading into their energetic “Elephant Love Medley”—a mashup that was recently parodied on Saturday Night Live.
In addition to sharing her love for music, Kidman opened up about her first-ever concerts, revealing that she saw AC/DC and David Bowie live—both of which earned cheers from the studio audience. But when Colbert asked which song she’d choose to listen to for the rest of her life, Kidman threw him a curveball. Rather than picking “Your Song” or another classic, she cheekily replied with John Cage’s “4′33″”—a composition famous for its silence.
