Michael J. Fox is stepping back into the spotlight. After a five-year hiatus from acting, the beloved Back to the Future star is set to appear in season 3 of the Apple TV+ series Shrinking, joining a cast that includes Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, and Jessica Williams.

Fox, now 63, shared the news via a joint Instagram post with Apple TV+ on May 15, writing, “Big feelings incoming,” alongside the announcement of his guest role. While specific details about his character remain under wraps, his involvement in the acclaimed series marks a major moment for both longtime fans and the actor himself.
Shrinking follows therapist Jimmy (Segel) as he navigates single parenthood and grief while working at a mental health practice alongside Ford’s and Williams’ characters. The show, praised for its blend of humor and emotional depth, is co-created by Segel, Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, and Bill Lawrence—who previously worked with Fox on Spin City in the late '90s.
This upcoming appearance will be Fox’s first on-screen role since his guest spot on The Good Fight in 2020. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1998, Fox has remained candid about the challenges and rewards of continuing to act. “I was good at it and it’s fun to be good at things,” he told ET in 2023. “It’s really nice if you go into something and say, ‘I know what to do here.’”
For Fox, acting has never been about accolades, but about connection. “The award part I don’t care about as much as having had the opportunity to help [people] and represent something to the community,” he said. “I look at a trophy and don’t think, ‘Wow, that means I’m great.’ It’s like, ‘Wow, I made somebody happy and they gave me this.’”
His return promises not just a nostalgic reunion with audiences, but a powerful reminder of why Michael J. Fox remains one of Hollywood’s most inspiring and enduring talents.
