On Tuesday (April 6th), a male tapir was found dead at Jalan Sedili-Tenggaroh, near Kota Tinggi. It was believed to have been hit by a heavy vehicle.
The carcass of the 250 kg tapir was found by passer-by, said Salman Saaban, director of Johor Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN).
He also added that this year alone, seven tapirs had been discovered dead after being struck by heavy vehicles in Johor.
To avoid endangering wild animals, he advised drivers to exercise caution when driving in areas of wild animal crossings, since signage has been put up to alert road users.
