Lenny Kravitz views his career as a series of chapters in a book, with each album marking a new phase of his life. At 60, the "American Woman" singer reflects on his journey by revisiting the albums he's released, noting that each one ties into what was happening in his life at the time.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Kravitz shared how he’s often asked about his mindset at different stages in his career, but to answer, he first considers his 13 albums, which he sees as the defining chapters of his life. His most recent chapter, marked by the May release of his album Blue Electric Light.
While known for his music, Kravitz’s distinctive lifestyle often draws attention. He’s frequently seen barefoot, and his unique style, like working out in leather pants, boots, and sunglasses, has garnered a following. He embraces the connection between his lifestyle and music, explaining, “Living is an art. It’s all about how you approach life and how you live it. It all goes together — the music, the lifestyle, everything. It’s all one and the same.”
Music is always on Kravitz’s mind, even during daily activities. He wakes up with melodies in his head and often grabs his guitar to record new ideas. He once even wrote a song during a media interview for his second album, Mama Said. “It was bizarre,” he recalled. “I was having an interview, but in my head, I was writing a song. I had to keep it going in my head until the interview was over, then I recorded it.”
