It turns out Drew Barrymore and Ke Huy Quan shared more than just a friendship as kids—they had crushes on each other too!

During a heartwarming moment on The Drew Barrymore Show this Wednesday, the E.T. actress, 49, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom star, 53, took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about their childhood connection and a special “date night” they once had.
Barrymore and Quan first met as kids through their mutual connection to director Steven Spielberg, who worked with Barrymore on E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Quan on Temple of Doom. Their bond solidified when Spielberg took them on a zoo trip in London during the filming of Temple of Doom.

Quan surprised Barrymore by bringing old photos from that day, including snapshots of them smiling together and even riding a camel. But the real surprise came when he made a heartfelt confession.
"I've never told anybody this before," Quan said. "But when we went to the zoo, I had a crush on you."
A stunned Barrymore covered her face and gasped, "You did?!"
Quan nodded. "I thought you were so cute and beautiful, and we were having the best time. And then we even had a date night, remember?"

As more photos from their childhood flashed on the screen, Barrymore confirmed she did, in fact, remember their dinner together. That’s when she made a confession of her own.
"I had a crush on you too," she admitted, causing the audience to erupt in a collective "awww."
She then shared a hilarious memory from one of their hangouts. Wanting to impress Quan, she decided to eat a chocolate-covered banana—only to later discover she had chocolate smeared all over her face.

"It wasn’t just at the corners of my mouth—it was everywhere," Barrymore laughed, drawing a circle around her mouth to demonstrate. "And I remember thinking, ‘From now on, if you're eating in front of someone you like, maybe don’t go full hog wild.’”
Though their childhood crushes never turned into anything romantic, Barrymore and Quan have remained close friends over the years. They even reunited in 2023 to present Spielberg with the Time 100 Impact Award, proving their bond has stood the test of time.
