Drew Barrymore is reminiscing about one of the most memorable moments of her childhood—meeting Princess Diana and gifting her an E.T. doll at just seven years old.

The E.T. star, now 50, shared the heartwarming memory with Meghan Markle during Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where they discussed Markle’s husband, Prince Harry.
“I got to meet his mom when I was 7 years old,” Barrymore revealed. “I have a picture—actually, it’s upstairs—of me presenting her with an E.T. doll. It was one of the most special moments of my life. I loved her so much, and I think the world of him.”
Surprised and touched by the story, Markle responded, “Oh, I didn’t know that! Aww, that’s beautiful. You’ll have to share that with me so I can show him.”
Barrymore later brought out a framed photo of the moment, showing a beaming young Drew handing the stuffed E.T. toy to Princess Diana, while director Steven Spielberg looked on in the background.

Markle admired the sentimental snapshot, saying, “Oh my gosh, look at your little face! That’s so sweet and special.”
Reflecting on the experience, Barrymore called it “the honor of my life” to have met Diana. “She was an incredible human being who transcended everything,” she added.
Markle, touched by the sentiment, assured her, “Well, I will tell H [Harry] that for sure.”

Barrymore has spoken about her admiration for Princess Diana before, recalling their meeting during a 2018 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “It was the most exciting moment for me to meet a real-life princess. The real-life princess. The people’s princess,” she said. “Diana was and always will be the epitome of a woman that all little girls look up to.”
With cherished memories and a photo to prove it, Barrymore continues to celebrate the lasting impact of Princess Diana’s kindness and legacy.
