Dolly Parton still can’t quite believe she’s the legend the world knows as Dolly Parton.

The legendary "9 to 5" singer reflected on her remarkable journey to stardom in an interview with Southern Living. "I think I’m a star to everybody but me," the 78-year-old shared. "I always wanted to be famous, but nobody could have imagined the level it reached. I’ll see a whole wall of my pictures somewhere and think, ‘How did that happen?’ It’s more a joy than a surprise."
Parton’s rise to fame began in 1967 when she joined The Porter Wagoner Show, replacing the previous co-host, Norma Jean. Her charm and talent captivated audiences, quickly outshining even the show’s host.
Over the decades, Parton has become an icon as a singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. With 10 Grammy wins out of 55 nominations, two Academy Award nominations, and her own theme park, Dollywood, her achievements are unparalleled.

Her fame continues to grow, and now the search is underway for someone to portray her in a Broadway production, Dolly: An Original Musical, which will celebrate her extraordinary life and career.
In her interview with Southern Living, Parton also reflected on her passion for songwriting. "I walk around with a song in my head and in my heart," she said.
Parton admitted that her love for creating music can sometimes make her forgetful. "I’ll go into a closet and wonder, ‘Now, what in the hell did I come in here for?’" she joked. "There’s nothing that makes me happier than writing a song."
In a November interview with The Guardian, Parton revealed that while she takes pride in all her songs, “Coat of Many Colors” from 1971 is the one that resonates with her the most.
"I think the one that’s most personal to me is the lil’ 'Coat of Many Colors,' because it talks about my mom, my parents, and gives you an insight into my life. It also covers bullying, acceptance, and all that."
Dolly Parton’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and a deep love for her craft. From her humble beginnings to her current status as a global icon, she continues to inspire generations with her music, stories, and enduring positivity.
