A dramatic rescue operation to save a kitten trapped in a drainage pipe beneath the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge in Penang has gone viral on social media.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, December 13, was first reported by TikTok user @zulfikri_fishing. The kitten was spotted near a pillar on the second bridge, heading towards Batu Maung, and could be heard meowing while peeking its head through a hole in the pipe.
Nine members of the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the scene to carry out the rescue. According to BBP Operations Commander Azman Radzi, the team was assisted by police from the Second Bridge Company Sdn Bhd (JKSB).
Due to the challenging location and height of the pipe, the rescuers used rappelling techniques to lower team members about 20 meters to reach the trapped kitten. Within 44 minutes, the team successfully freed the kitten by cutting through the PVC pipe.
