It was announced yesterday by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will begin using the English language for their daily briefings and operations.
This came after the request from the Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who mentioned that there should be an improvement in the police force’s command of English, and that it should be on par with the rest of the world.
According to Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, the course is aimed towards improving the police force’s speaking and writing abilities in the English language. As of now, he has gauge that the level of English proficiency in the force is only moderate.

At the moment, PDRM’s internal officers will be tasked with conducting the language program. External English language teachers will not be required unless there’s insufficiency within. The language course is expected to start today.
