A Hong Kong father forked out HK$33,600 (RM18,816) at a designer toy store after his son was accused of smashing a golden-coloured, 1.8-metre-tall Teletubbies doll that shattered into pieces.

However, after a video of the incident appeared, it seems like the five-year-old was leaning lightly against the doll. The father, Mr Cheng, believed his son had been incorrectly blamed by staff at the KKPlus store in the Langham Place mall.

According to their Commercial Radio interview, Mr Cheng and his wife were at the store with two of their sons on Sunday evening.

He heard a loud bang coming from the store after he stepped out for a moment to take a phone call.

He said he saw his son was motionless, staring at a 1.8-metre gold Teletubbies toy that had fallen over.

Since Mr Cheng and his wife didn’t witness the incident, they heard from one of the staff that their older son had been seen kicking the Teletubbies doll, and asked them to cover the cost of the damaged toy.

After he believed that it was his son’s fault, Mr Cheng agreed to pay for the doll.

The doll was retailed at HK$52,800 (RM29,570), however, the shopkeeper said he would charge him the cost price of HK$33,600 (RM18,816) instead.

Later that night, Mr Cheng saw the video online and realised his son may have been wrongly accused.

Mr Cheng’s wife called KKPlus that night to resolve the matter.
