There have been numerous rules around food and eating, including what time to eat! However, the rules are best left to science.
Interestingly, there is no evidence for time restriction. Yet, according to Sabine Holzaepfel, a nutrition consultant in Germany, what time you eat matters.
It is vital though to understand how humans digest food. Some foods are easier to digest than others. Spicy and fried foods tend to stay in the gastrointestinal tract longer and will take a longer time to digest. Hence opt for a lighter meal before bed.
Aside from that, being aware of your own health condition plays a part too. For instance, people who have heartburn should be more careful eating fruits in the evening as it’s unpleasant and you’ll have difficulties falling asleep. Thanks who suffer from stomach pressure should aim for smaller meals in the evening or eat at least three hours before bed.
However, eating certain foods such as candy, sweets or white bread later at night could promote obesity.
