Each of us have our own way of dealing with stress. Some listen to soothing music, some take long walks, and some just sleep it off. But, have you ever considered washing dishes? A recent study published in a journal, Mindfulness, reports that dishwashing is a great way to relieve stress!
It works when the person washing the dishes is mindful of the activity. This means the person is totally focused on the smell of the soap, the temperature of the water, and physical contact with the dishes.
Researches from the Florida State University had 51 students wash dishes, and the results were pleasantly surprising. The results showed mindful dishwashing helped to reduce nervousness by 27%, while mental inspiration increased by 25%.
So, there. You now have another reason to do your dishes—if having clean plates isn’t already enough of a push for you to do it.
