Wales' qualifying hopes have suffered blow after they were held 1-all by Serbia.

Gareth Bale put Wales ahead after half an hour, only for Newcastle's Aleksandar Mitrovic to level the score late in the game.

Wales are 3rd in Group D, 4 points off leaders Ireland, who edged Austria 1-nil, while Serbia are in 2nd place.

Meanwhile, Spain hammered Macedonia 4-nil to top Group G.

They are ahead of Italy on goal difference after the Azzuri hammered Liechtenstein also 4 nil.

Over in Group I, leaders Croatia beat Iceland 2-ni.
