Usain Bolt wins 200 meters final

Aug 19, 2016

Jamaica's Usain Bolt has won the 200 meters final in 19.78 seconds at the Rio Olympics to take gold for the 3rd successive Games.

Bolt has now completed a triple double, having also done the same in the 100 meters, and now a win in the 4x100 meters relay, will see him complete an extraordinary "triple-triple" of sprint titles.

Bolt told reporters he's trying to be one of the greatest, among Muhammad Ali and Pele, and hopes to be in that bracket after these Games.

In other highlights this morning,

Dalilah Muhammad took the Olympic gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles, while fellow American Kerron Clement won the men's 400 meters hurdles.

Ryan Crouser, also from the US, hurled the longest throw of his life to win the men's shot put final, while breaking the 28-year-old Olympic record, with 22.52 metres.

American Ashton Eaton won his 2nd straight Olympic decathlon gold medal, and became just the third man to win the Olympic decathlon twice.

The last athlete to achive this feat was Briton Daley Thompson at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

The US now has 35 gold medal and has reach the 100-mark of total medals in Rio.

Controversial South African athlete Caster Semenya qualified for the women's 800 metres final.

Early this morning, Pandelela Rinong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri could only manage 11th and 9th place respectively, in the individual 10-meter platform final.

Tonight, Datuk Lee Chong Wei will face Lin Dan in the men's semifinal, before Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong go for gold in the men's doubles.
