Sunderland's chief executive resigns after footballer's conviction on child sex offences
Mar 09, 2016
Sunderland's chief executive has resigned in the wake of Adam Johnson's conviction on child sex offences.
She confessed to a "serious error of judgment" in recommending Johnson be allowed to continue to play for the club, despite being told by his lawyer of the sexual encounter.
Johnson was not sacked by Sunderland until the start of his trial last month, after he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with the girl and one charge of grooming.
