Serena Williams makes short work of Maria Sharapova at US Open

Aug 27, 2019

Serena Williams is through to the second round of the US Tennis Open.

The home favourite recorded a comfortable 6-1 6-1 victory over Maria Sharapova.

It was Williams' eighth win over her long-time rival in a Grand Slam play.

Elsewhere at the US Open, Venus Williams, Ashleigh Barty, Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori were some of the other big names to make the second round.

Christian Eriksen turns down lucrative contract at Tottenham

It's looking increasingly likely that Christian Eriksen will be leaving Tottenham by the end of the month.

Sources say the Danish midfielder, whose current contract runs out in less than a year, has turned down a 200 thousand pounds-per-week offer to remain with Spurs.

This means the London club will be looking to offload Eriksen before the close of the European transfer window, to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.

Alexis Sanchez to remain at Old Trafford?

Manchester United could reportedly decide to keep Alexis Sanchez after all, despite the striker being linked with a move to Inter Milan.

This is because Anthony Martial has picked up a potentially serious injury, which would leave the Red Devils with a shortage of strikers.
