Novak Djokovic through to semis in Melbourne

Jan 23, 2019

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is a step closer to claiming a seventh Australian Open title.

This, after Serbian made short work of his quarterfinal clash with Kei Nishikori, after the Japanese retired during the second set with a thigh injury.

Djokovic will next face French youngster Lucas Pouille in the semis, who earlier defeated Canada's Milos Raonic in four sets.

Over in the women's draw, Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova also advanced, after defeating Serena Williams in a three-set thriller.

Pliskova will next face Japanese starlet Naomi Osaka, who earlier took out Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Osaka became the first Japanese woman to reach the Australian Open semis, since Kimiko Date in 1994.
