National mixed doubles shuttlers advance at Australian Badminton Open

Jun 21, 2017

National mixed doubles shuttlers Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing have made it through to the 2nd round of the Australian Badminton Open.

They beat Olympic champs Tontowi Ahmad-Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia in straight sets, and will next go up against opponents from Japan.

Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See have also moved past the 1st round.

Over in the men's doubles category, 4th seeded Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong crashed out after losing to an unseeded Japanese pair.

However, unseeded Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have progressed to the 2nd round.

Meanwhile, Zulfadli Zulkiffli has also advanced.

He is our only rep in the men's singles category, after Datuk Lee Chong Wei withdrew to focus on the BWF World Championships this August.
