Malaysia sets medal target for KL SEA Games

Aug 10, 2017

Malaysia has set a medal target of 111 gold for this month's KL SEA Games.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin made the announcement after officially handing over the Jalur Gemilang to the national contingent.

The target is the same as the amount of gold Malaysia won at the previous Games in KL back in 2001, when the national contingent emerged as the overall champs.

Meanwhile, Khairy has officially opened the Main Press Centre and the International Broadcast Centre for the Games.

Both are located at the newly-opened Malaysian International Trade Exhibition Centre  or MITEC in KL.

The Minister says the number of journalists and photographers involved this year is nearly three time larger than the previous Games.

He adds that that the Press Centre will have over 700 work stations, while the Broadcast Centre will host 9 broadcasters from 5 countries.

Separately, the Road Transport Department will prepare some 300 busses, for the transportation of over 13,000 participants at the KL SEA Games.

This includes for the athletes, sports officials, and technical officers.

JPJ says its personnel will also be helping the police to ensure the traffic flow is smooth during the Games.
