Malaysia match London Games achievement at Rio

Aug 17, 2016

Azizulhasni Awang has delivered a Bronze medal for Malaysia at the Rio Olympics.

The cyclist finished 3rd in the men's kierin final, behind Dutchman Matt Buchli and winner Jason Kenny from Great Britain.

Azizul, finished 6th in the final of the last Olympics in London in 2012.

Together with the Silver won in diving, Malaysia has matched the achievement at the London Games 4 years ago with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

However, we are assured of at least another 2 Silver in badminton, after shuttlers Goh V Shem - Tan Wee Kiong beat China's Chai Biao - Hong Wei for a meeting with another Chinese pair, Fu Haifeng - Zhang Nan in the gold medal clash on Friday night.

They are the first Malaysian pair to reach the men's doubles final at the Olympics since Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock in 1996.

The mixed doubles final between Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon - Goh Yiu Ling and an Indonesian pair will be played tonight at 10.50pm.

In other Rio highlights,

American Simone Biles won the individual gymnastics medal.

The Brazil women's football team lost 4-3 in a penalty shootout to Sweden, who will next face Germany in the final.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt ran 20.28 seconds to reach the semi-finals of the men's 200 meters.
