KBS to meet China envoy over World Cup bid
Jun 28, 2019
The Youth and Sports Ministry wants to meet Chinese embassy officials here, over reports that China is considering a bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2030.
As ASEAN announced that it will launch a joint bid to host the 2034 edition, FIFA regulations state that nations from the same continent are not allowed to host the World Cup consecutively.
Minister Syed Saddiq says a meeting with Chinese officials will ascertain China's stand over the matter, as they have yet to officially make an announcement on the rumoured 2030 bid.
"If China wins the 2030 bid, that means we have to wait minimum up to 2038. But we will try our very best. I think it's still worth pursuing, and we will continue to pursue."
Syed Saddiq adds that the Prime Minister has already given his consent, and has instructed his Ministry to carry on with the meeting.
