Govt allocates RM533 mil for sports under Budget 2020

Oct 12, 2019

RM299 mil has been allocated for the Sports for All programme under Budget 2020, and the Malaysian Hockey Confederation hopes some of it would be channelled to the development of the sport.

Its President says he will meet with the National Sports Council to get details on the allocation, stressing that any sport will only be successful if there are good development programmes at the grassroots.

When tabling Budget 2020 in Parliament yesterday, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the RM299 mil will also be used for restoring and upgrading sport facilities nationwide, including community sports complexes.

Also, the government has allocated RM10 mil under Budget 2020, to promote women in sports - giving our female athletes some long overdue recognition.

It's happy with the progress shown by our national aces like squash queen Datuk Nicol David, Olympic diving silver medallist Pandelela Rinong, and gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia says the allocation is also good motivation for young female athletes to excel in the international arena.
