Footballer Lionel Messi and reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton have been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award.

Footballer Lionel Messi and reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton have been recognised for their outstanding achievements in the past year, as they were nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award.

They join an impressive six-man shortlist, which also includes sprinter Usain Bolt, golfer Jordan Spieth, basketball star Stephen Curry and last year's winner Novak Djokovic.

Fellow tennis star Serena Williams leads the women's shortlist, with the announcement set to be held in Berlin on April 18th.
