FIFA will not take action against Saudi Arabia

Jun 09, 2017

FIFA will not take action against Saudi Arabia, over an incident at yesterday's World Cup qualifier.

The Saudi players failed to observe a minute's silence for the victims of the London attack, before the start of the match against Australia.

FIFA says it has reviewed the match report and images from the match, and found no grounds to take disciplinary action.

Saudi team officials had informed their Australian counterparts, prior to the match, that the tradition of stopping to honour the dead was not in keeping with Saudi culture.

However, Saudi Arabia's football governing body still issued an apology and said that the players did not intend any disrespect to the memories of the victims, and that it condemns all acts of terror.
