Datuk Lee Chong Wei is crowned Sportsperson of the Year

Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been crowned Sportsperson of the Year by the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia.

Among his achievements last year was a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

Chong Wei pipped 6 other nominees for the title, including diving pair Pandelela Rinong-Cheong Jun Hoong, and shuttlers Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.

Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, who won Malaysia's first Paralympic gold medal in Rio, was voted Best Paralympic Athlete.

Rising diving star, Nur Dhabitah Sabri was named - Best Young Athlete, and the National Silat Federation - PESAKA, received the Dynamic Sports Association Award.
