Cristiano Ronaldo wins Ballon d'Or award

Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi to this year's Ballon d'Or award as the World's Best Player. 

This is the Real Madrid star's fifth honour overall, drawing him level with Messi on the all-time winner's list. 

PSG star Neymar, Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon, and Real Madrid's Luka Modric rounded up the top five in this year's rankings.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante was the highest-placed Premiership player, in eighth position.
