lee zii jia turns down road to gold spot

Lee Zii Jia has turned down an offer to join the Road to Gold programme for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Youth and Sports Ministry says the badminton pro declined the offer for personal reasons.

4 other athletes also turned down the programme, including fellow shuttlers Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai.

The ministry says so far, 12 Malaysian athletes have agreed to join the Road to Gold programme, while another four are under the 'fast track' category.

Harimau Malaya captain Matt Davies says his team is only focusing on their own preparations, ahead of tonight's Asian Cup qualifier against Vietnam.

He was responding to reports that two of Vietnam's key players have been sidelined due to injury.

Meanwhile, Harimau Malaya's 5 new heritage signings are expected to make their debuts tonight, after they received FIFA's approval to play for the national team.

Inter Milan have appointed Parma's Cristian Chivu as their new head coach, replacing Simone Inzaghi.

Chivu is an Inter legend, helping them win three Serie A titles as a player, and had previously coached their youth team.
