Benzema hattrick leaves Chelsea close to Champions League exit

Karim Benzema netted a hattrick to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Chelsea in the first-leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at Stamford Bridge.
The holders were down by two goals after just 24 minutes, before Benzema capitalized on a mistake by Chelsea’s keeper to add his third just after half-time.
This is the Frenchman’s second straight hattrick in the Champions League, having also scored three times in the last game against PSG.

Villarreal snatched a surprise 1-0 home win over Bayern Munich in the first-leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
Ex-Bournemouth striker Arnaut Danjuma netted the only goal of the game after only eight minutes.
Villarreal are now the first club to beat Bayern in the Champions League this season.
