Sep 03, 2024

liek hou delivers another golden performance

The Malaysian contingent has picked up its first gold medal at the Paris Paralympics.

It came via Cheah Liek Hou, who won the SU5 singles title in the para-badminton event.

The 36-year-old defeated his Indonesian opponent in straight sets, to defend the gold he won at the last edition on Tokyo.

Meanwhile, compatriot Muhammad Fareez Anuar missed out on a badminton bronze, after falling to his opponent from Indonesia in the third-place match.

Among the other Malaysians in action in Paris…para swimmer Nur Syaiful Zulkafli has finished in sixth place, in the final of the SB4 100m breaststroke event.

-

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has no plans to retire from international football any time soon.

The 39-year-old Portugal legend says he will quit when the time is right, and when he feels he can no longer contribute to the national team.

Ronaldo has been named in the squad for Portugal’s upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Scotland.

-

Man United officials say manager Erik Ten Hag still has the backing of the club, despite their weekend defeat to Liverpool.

The loss has left United 14th in the standings, with only one win in their opening three league matches.

-

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has announced his retirement from international football…ending a 17-year career with the national team as their top scorer with 69 goals.

-

And, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev has made the quarterfinals at the US tennis Open after a straight sets win over Portugal’s Nuno Borges.
