Aug 10, 2016
Weightlifter Hafifi Mansor bettered the national record when he lifted 316 kilograms in total in the 69kg category, but that was only good for 13th place.
Shi Zhiyong won the event to give China their 8th gold medal.
However, the US have just gone level with China on 8 gold, after Katie Ledecky won the women's 200 metres freestyle and Micheal Phelps won the men's 200m butterfly final.
Its Phelps 20th Olympic gold medal of his career.
Earlier, national diver, Cheong Jun Hoong erased her disappointment last weekend, by winning Malaysia's first medal at the Rio Olympics together with Pandelela Rinong.
Jun Hoong missed out on a medal in the 3 meter springboard synchronised with Nur Dabitah Sabri on Sunday, but clinched the silver with Pandalela in the 10-meter platform synchronised event this morning.
The duo scored 344.34, slightly more than 10 points behind the winning pair from China.
