Jun 11, 2019
Organisers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have confirmed that winners at next year's Games, will stand on podiums made from recycled plastic waste, collected from local households or the ocean.
They are looking to collect as much as 45 tonnes of plastic, to make the approximately 100 podiums needed for the Games.
Organisers have sought to frame the Games as environmentally friendly, with even the medals for the Games being forged from recycled metal collected from old electronic devices, while the uniforms to be worn by runners in the torch relay will be partially made from recycled plastic bottles.

Tennis great Boris Becker has questioned the quality of the current generation of young players.
He says none of the current players under the age of 28 have managed to stamp their mark on the sport, which is still being dominated by the veteran trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who are all in their 30s.
In fact, 10 of the past majors have been won by the Big Three.
Becker says he can't understand why the youngsters are having trouble breaking through, especially when other sports are dominated by younger players.
