Sharapova handed a 2-year doping ban
Jun 09, 2016
Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova has been handed a 2-year doping ban by the International Tennis Federation, but says she will appeal the suspension.
Sharapova blasted the ban as "unfairly harsh", saying while an independant tribunal agreed that she did not do anything intentionally wrong, yet they seek to keep her from playing tennis for 2 years.
The 29-year old had earlier admitted that she was negligent by not looking at the new list of banned substances this year, which included meldonium, for which she tested positive, during January's Australian Open.
