Sanches named Young Player of Euros

Jul 11, 2016

Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches has been named as Young Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016.

The accolade caps a sensational breakthrough season for the teenager, who scored his first goal for his country against Poland, making him the third-youngest player to register in a Euro finals fixture.

This as Portugal beat France for the first time in 41 years, as they were crowned European champions with a 1-0 victory.

Substitute Eder struck in the 2nd half of extra time to secure victory, with Portugal having to play the majority of the match without captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who was stretchered off the pitch in the 1st half with a knee injury.

Portuguese defender, Pepe was named Man of the Match after an outstanding defensive display.

France forward Antoine Griezmann was the Golden Boot winner with a total of 6 goals in the tournament.
