Manchester City wins 8-goal thriller
Feb 22, 2017
Manchester City have won an 8-goal thriller in the Champions League, beating Monaco 5-3 in the 1st leg of their last 16 tie in England.
City opened the scoring through Raheem Sterling, but Monaco fought back and twice took the lead, only for Sergio Aguero to level the score with 2 equalizers.
John Stones and Leroy Sane then added their names to the scoresheet to give City a 2-goal advantage for the return-leg in France.
It was also a record-setting match.
It was the first time 8 goals have been scored in the first leg of a Champions League knockout game.
Monaco's Kylian Mbappe is the 2nd youngest French scorer in the Champions League, after Karim Benzema.
Sergio Aguero's first goal was City's 200th European goal.
And there were also 10 yellow cards handed out, the most in a Champions League game this season.
Over at the other Champions League tie in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen suffered their first home loss in Europe after a 10-match unbeaten run, as they lost 4-2 to Athletico Madrid.
Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Fernando Torres all scored for the Spanish side.
The return legs will be played in 3 weeks time.
