Malaysian shuttlers make winning starts at the Olympics

Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon - Goh Liu Ying has beaten their Thai opponents in the badminton event at the Rio Olympcis.

This means all our shuttlers made wining starts in their respective groups.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei defeated Surinam's Soren Opti in his opening group match, and will meet Singapore's Derek Wong on Sunday.

Women's doubles pair Vivian Hoo - Woon Khe Wei beat their British opponents on their Olympic debut, and men's doubles pair Goh V Shem - Tan Wee Kiong got past a German duo.

Meanwhile, Malaysian golfers Danny Chia and Gavin Kyle Green scored identical 2-over par 73 in their first round, tied for 42nd place, 10 shots behind the leader from Australia.

British golfer Justin Rose created history when he recorded the first hole-in-one in the Olympic Games.

American gymnast Simone Biles has become the first reigning world champion to win an Olympic all around title in 20 years.

Earlier, fellow American Kayla Harrison won the judo women's 78kg final.

In tennis, defending champ Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal are through to the quarters.
