Malaysian archers make early exits at Rio Olympics

Aug 11, 2016

Malaysian archers have made early exits at Rio Olympics.

This after Khairul Anuar Mohamad crashed out in the 2nd round of the individual Archery event, losing to Germany's Florian Floto.

Fellow archers Muhd Akmal Nor Hasrin and Kamaruddin Haziq couldn't get past the 1st round.

Meanwhile, national shooter Jonathan Wong failed to get past the qualification round in the men's 50-meter Air Pistol.

The US led the overall medal-tally with 10 gold, their latest coming from cyclist Kristin Armstrong, who won the women's individual time trial, to become the first person to win the same road cycling event at 3 Olympics.

China are close behind with 9 gold, after weightlifter Xiang Yanmei won the women's 69kg category.

Japan have moved up to 3rd with 6 gold, after winning 2 judo events, while gymnast Kohei Uchimura defended his all-round men's title.

Malaysia are in 35th place with the solitary silver won by Pandalela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong yesterday.

Separately, the National Sports Council says Pandelela and Jun Hoong would equally share the 600 thousand ringgit incentive, and receive a monthly pension of 3 thousand ringgit each, which starts immediately.

Catch the action from the Rio Olympics on Astro channel 760 and 780.
