Liverpool miss chance to close gap with Premiership leaders

Jan 03, 2017

Liverpool missed the chance to close the gap with Premier League leaders Chelsea, after being held to a 2-2 draw at Sunderland.

Sunderland came from behind twice with Jermain Defoe scoring 2 penalties, to cancel out goals from Daniel Sturridge and Sadio Mane.

However, the Black Cats remained in the relegation zone, and the Reds are 2nd, 5 points behind Chelsea, who now have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both scored to give Manchester United a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Manchester City, who had Fernandinho sent off in the first-half, beat Burnley 2-1 with goals from Gael Clichy and Sergio Aguero.

Everton won 3-0 against Southampton at Goodison Park,
West Brom fought back from a goal down to beat Hull City 3-1,
while Middlesbrough and Leicester played out a goalless draw.
