'Halo' to be introduced into F1 next year

The FIA has confirmed that the controversial 'halo' cockpit head-protection system will be introduced into F1, next year.

It says after the evaluation of numerous devices over the past 5 years, it has found the halo to be the best in overall safety performance.

This, as it's the only one to successfully deflect a wheel fired at it at 150 miles per hour, and provide a largely unobstructed view.

The move comes less than a week after a transparent cockpit 'shield' proved unusable at the British Grand Prix.
