Guardiola backs Sterling over wrong penalty

Nov 08, 2018

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has defended Raheem Sterling, after Sterling benefitted from a wrongly-given penalty call in this morning's 6-nil Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The winger went down inside the box after he tripped on some turf, and the ref awarded the penalty, believing he was fouled by a Shakhtar player.

Gabriel Jesus then converted the penalty.

Guardiola dismissed claims that Sterling had a responsibility to tell the ref that it was the wrong decision.

He adds, incidents like this is why VAR should be used in every single match.
