England break their penalty shootout curse

Jul 04, 2018

England are through to the quarterfinals - beating Colombia 4-3 on penalties after their match ended 1-1 after extra time.

Harry Kane gave the English the lead from the penalty spot in the second half, only for Yerry Mina to head in a dramatic equalizer for Colombia deep into injury time

After a goalless extra-time,the match then went to penalties.

It was level at 3 spot-kicks apiece, when Eric Dier stepped up to net the winner, to give England their first ever shootout victory in the tournament.

England will next face Sweden, who booked their place in the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Switzerland.

This is the Swedes first appearance in the last eight since 1994.
