Barcelona, Liverpool agree Coutinho deal

Jan 07, 2018

Barcelona will sign Liverpool Philippe Coutinho in a 142 million pound deal.

The Brazil midfielder agreed a five-and-a-half year contract.

Here are the details:

- Barca will pay Liverpool 105 million pounds up-front, with the rest as add-ons.

- It is the third-most expensive deal in football, behind Neymar and Kylian M'Bappe's moves to PSG.

- Liverpool rejected three bids from Barca in the summer, as well as a transfer request from Coutinho himself.

- According to reports, Liverpool will replace Coutinho with Leicester City Football Club's Riyad Mahrez, who will have his medical this weekend.

- In a statement, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said:

“I have been here long enough now to know in the history of Liverpool, key players have left before – but the club always goes on. You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it."
