There were mixed fortunes for Malaysian shuttlers at the Paris Olympics badminton event.

The men’s doubles pair of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik as well as the mixed doubles pairing of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei both won their opening group matches.

However, Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah lost their opening tie against the world number one pair from China in the women’s doubles.

Meanwhile, shooter Johnathan Wong has missed out on a place in the final of the 10m air pistol event after finishing in 26th place in the qualification round.

While swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean ranked 27th out of 38 swimmers in the men’s 400m freestyle heats.

There will be more Malaysian athletes in action in Paris today in badminton, swimming and archery.

In other developments, Malaysia has fallen to a 1-0 defeat to Indonesia in the semifinals of the ASEAN Under-19 football Championship.

Our juniors will next face Australia in the third-place classification match on Monday.

In Malaysian Super League action…Selangor thrashed Penang 4-1 while KL City played out a goalless draw with Sri Pahang.

And, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has taken pole position for the Belgian F1 GP ahead of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes.
