Former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has died at the age of 76, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was the first foreigner to lead the England national team in 2001…and managed the Three Lions’ golden generation of players that included David Beckham, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney.

Eriksson also managed 12 club sides, including Man City, Roma and Lazio, winning 18 trophies.

-

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgo Mamardashvili has completed his medical ahead of signing for Liverpool.

However, the 23-year-old will not be moving to Anfield just yet, as he’ll be spending the rest of the season on loan at the Spanish club.

-

Colombia captain James Rodriguez has signed for Rayo Vallecano on a free transfer from Brazilian side Sao Paolo.

This is Rodriguez’s second stint in La Liga…having spent six years with Real Madrid.

-

The McLaren F1 team insists it will not give preferential treatment to Lando Norris over Oscar Piastri, even though the former is in contention for the world title.

Norris currently trails championship leader Max Verstappen by 70 points…heading into the last nine races of the season.

-

And, defending champion Coco Gauff has easily won her first round match at the US tennis Open, with a straight sets victory over her French opponent.
