Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is "honoured and privileged" to have managed Manchester United.
Speaking for the first time since his sacking, he says he has no regrets from his three years in charge of the Red Devils.
“Everyone knows I’ve given everything for this club. This club means everything to me, and we were a good match”.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get the results we needed and it is time for me to step aside”, he added.
Solksjaer was dismissed after United’s 4-1 EPL defeat to Watford on Saturday, which left them with just one win in seven league matches.
First-team coach Michael Carrick has been placed in charge on a temporary basis, while the club seeks an interim boss to take over until the end of the season.
PSG coach Mauricio Pochetino is reportedly the favourite for the United job in the summer.
